Research
Research projects, peer-reviewed publications, and the Metals Processing Simulation Laboratory at Illinois.
Since 1991, the consortium has conducted more than one hundred individual research projects and produced several hundred peer-reviewed publications spanning fluid flow, heat transfer, solidification, defect formation, electromagnetic braking, and related aspects of continuous casting. Work is carried out in the Metals Processing Simulation laboratory at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, using both in-house computational codes and commercial CFD packages validated against plant and laboratory measurements.
